Dear , Great post by marketer, Graham McGregor (I always tell you this): __________ There is a fascinating business lesson I really like from a boxing announcer.
His name is Michael Buffer, and in the 1980s he came up with five simple words before big fights.
“Let’s get ready to rumble!”
That phrase became so famous that he trademarked it
in the early 1990s.
Over the years it has been licensed for movies, television, advertising and video games, and it has generated more than $400 million in revenue.
All from five words.
That got me thinking about marketing.
One of the most profitable questions you can ask yourself is this.
What one thing do you want your business to be famous for?
In other words, when people are talking
about your business to someone else, what is the one idea you want them to remember and repeat?
I saw a great example of this yesterday.
I was browsing the website of an interesting New Zealand company called Astro.
On the homepage there is a short video from the founder Richard Beatson explaining what the company does.
The video only runs for about a minute and a half, but one phrase keeps coming up again and again.
Exceptional guest
experiences.
Richard repeats it several times.
Helping hotels and motels create exceptional guest experiences.
So when I now think about Astro, the message is crystal clear in my mind.
They are the company that helps hotels and motels create exceptional guest experiences.
This message is simple and super easy to understand.
So it is incredibly easy for someone like me to explain this message to someone else.
Which, of course, is exactly what
I’m doing right now.
That is powerful marketing.
So here is my question to you again.
What one thing would you like your business to be famous for?
If someone was recommending you to a friend or colleague, what would you want them to say?
“Ah yes… they’re the people who…”
When you can answer that question clearly, your marketing suddenly becomes much easier.
And much more
memorable.
Sometimes the most powerful marketing idea in the world is simply this.
Becoming well known and even famous for one thing. __________ Until next time... Remember to K.I.C. (Keep It
