I was shopping in a department store a while back.
Believe it or not, I don't mind clothes shopping. Truth be told, sometimes I rather enjoy it.
But what I don't enjoy is being insulted by the salesperson.
It was not only uncalled for, frankly, it was shocking.
What happened to "the customer is always right"?
So I guess you want to know what happened...
Well, without boring you too
many details, I took three or four pieces into the dressing room to check the fit. When I walked outside the room and back into the men's department (to look for different sizes), the salesperson obviously thought I was finished trying things on and was leaving for good.
Salesperson: "People should take the clothes out of the dressing room and put them back. At least that's what the considerate
people do."
Me: "Are you saying I'm not courteous?"
Salesperson: No reply.
Me: "Well, you just lost a sale. I hope it was worth it insulting me."
Then I left. No purchase made... I felt like I was just slapped in the face.
Obviously, it was a misunderstanding but the damage was already done.
She might have been having a bad day or maybe her kid was sick or something... but clearly... that's no way to talk to a customer.
Always remember that without your customer you have no business. ALWAYS ALWAYS remember that.
I like this quote by Jeff Bezos, Founder of Amazon, about the importance of the customer:
“The most important single thing is to focus obsessively on the customers. Our goal is to be the world’s most customer-centric company.”
