Dear , How Do You Communicate Your Awesomeness Without Sounding Pompous? Cuz no one wants to sound
pompous, right? Right! One of the barriers to a sale is skepticism. The prospect will probably be skeptical in dealing with you for a host of reasons. At least initially. Internally, you want to shake your prospect
not to fear because you've done some really great things for your clients and that, let's face it, YOU'RE AWESOME! (Obviously, you can't really say that because it sounds so arrogant.) What to do?
Tip #1: Tell Stories. Use your experiences with previous clients or customers to communicate
the successes you've had. Tell your client about the one time you were faced with an insurmountable challenge and overcame it... or... when you used a particular skill to figure out your client's big dilemma. Tell the story. Give the details. We love hearing stories (everybody does!). This technique is especially effective if your story directly relates to the item or service you're selling. The closer the correlation, the better. Tip #2: Share Your Testimonials or Thank You Letters. There's nothing more effective in selling than testimonials. (Heck, an entire industry is built on customer testimonials and reviews, e.g., Trip Advisor, Yelp, etc.). So, make it a point to share whatever testimonials you have from satisfied customers with your new and potential ones. Post them on social media, include them in your marketing materials and let the testimonials sell
for you. Tip #3: Use the News to Your Advantage. Are there any hot news topics out there that are stumping the experts -- but can help showcase your expertise? Well, tell your customer about it -- and how you'd solve it. (Ahem, but please stay away from politics! You never know if your political speak will turns someone off.) For example, if you sell insurance, and there
are topics in the news related to health care... or the inheritance tax... or wildfires... bring up the news item and propose a solution that's within your wheelhouse. If it's extremely creative, you get bonus points! Using this technique demonstrates your expertise -- without you having to say a single word about your awesomeness. Until
