You can be the smartest person in the room...
You can have all the contacts in the world...
You can even recite
your ABC's backwards in under 10 seconds (a completely useless skill)...
But there's one thing that can put more money in your pocket than nearly everything else... and that is...
Being Able to Read People
It amazes me when I see someone engaged in a conversation... rambling on and on... and it's so obvious that the person they're talking to is absolutely out of their mind bored silly with the conversation.
I want to say: "Don't you see what's happening here?!"
On the other hand, I've seen people who are so adept in reading the room that they're able to adjust their words and entire demeanor in a split second to maintain interest and appeal.
Not everyone is born with this ability; however, it can be learned.
Here Are 4 Non-Verbal and Body Language Clues
You Should Look Out For:
1. STUDY THE EYES -- Eyes are the window to the soul. If the person you're talking to can't maintain eye contact, is looking all over the
place or is staring out in nowhere, you've probably lost them or they're looking for a way to get away.
2. CHECK THEIR PROXIMITY -- If someone is slowly inching away from you while you're talking of if they're trying to get away to get someone else's attention, start asking them questions rather than talking about yourself. Of course, you can always pop some Tic
Tacs!
3. CHECK THEIR SPEECH PATTERNS -- If you're doing all the talking and the other person is silent and all you're hearing is "uh-huh" (or nothing at all) make a quick U-Turn and focus on THEM.
4. WATCH THEIR BODY
LANGUAGE -- Many people who are really engaged in conversation do certain things with their hands, for example, touch the other person's shoulder. If the person has his arms crossed or if they're in his pocket, it may indicate defensiveness, or nervousness, even lack of interest.
Of course, there's also the not-so-subtle move of simply walking away while
you're talking...
I don't think you need a newsletter to tell you what that means :)
