Great post I want to share with you by marketer and copywriter extraordinaire David Deutsch. I suggest you print it out and refer to it frequently.

The Formula for How a Business Succeeds

"I call them the Seven P's:

1. PRODUCT — What you sell

A great product is your best competitive advantage.

Questions to ask:

• What if you added new features ("new & improved")?
• What if you created additional products or services (line extension)?
• What if you created a budget or deluxe version?

2. POSITIONING

This is how you present your product.

Ask:

• How should you position your brand vs competitors in the mind of the prospect?
• What is your customer's experience (it's what differentiates Apple)
• What do your packaging and branding say about you?

3. PRICE

How you price your product can give you big strategic leverage.

Strategies like...

• Installment payments
• Sell unlimited/lifetime-access
• Prepay/volume discounts
• Buy now or pay more later
• Peak/off-peak pricing (Uber)
• Make something free (shipping)

4. PLACE

Finding other places to sell can open up huge opportunities.

Strategies:

• My favorite: Sell or promote where the competition isn't
• Sell offline if online (or vice versa)
• Consider all channels
— Retail, telemarketing, in-person
— JVs, commissioned sales

5. PROMOTION

Lots of leverage here, of course:

Be sure to utilize:

• Companies or groups who sell to same market
• The STORY behind your brand
• Celebrity (or create a character)
• Revise your sales funnel (improve/add/subtract)
• Better copy (natch)
• Affiliates

6. PEOPLE

Successful businesses have the right people (inside or out) doing the right things the right way.

Ask:

• Who's involved in your business?
• Are the right people in the right roles doing the right things?
• Should any inhouse tasks be outsourced (or vice versa)?

7. PROCESS

Process is HOW it all gets done.

Ask yourself:

• How do tasks move through the company?
• Should steps be eliminated? Added?
• How can you add quality? Speed?
• Are there redundancies?
• Do you track, standardize and constantly improve your processes?

In short... the 7 P's that are critical for business success are:

1. Product - What it is
2. Positioning - How it's thought of
3. Price - What it costs
4. Place - Where it's sold
5. Promotion - How it's sold
6. People - Who is involved
7. Process - How it all gets done"
