I will not only tell you my biggest secret to getting emails opened, but I'll also share my top 7 most opened email subject-lines.
Does this interest you? Of course it does! Hey, I'm excited about it... and I'm the one writing it.
Yes, there is a method to the madness... and... it's formulaic. Just plug and play.
The big secret of email marketing is to first making sure your subject line creates a click.
Here is the
formula:
Curiosity + Perceived Benefit = Open
Got that?
In your subject line, you need to do two
things:
1. Make the reader curious. You want them to ask: What's this about? What does he mean? Is this for real?
2. Offer the reader something YOU KNOW they want to know more about. A benefit. An advantage. Important information.
Whatever.
Then combine one and two.
You'll end up with something like this...
1. For financial planners emailing their list: "Why I HATE mutual funds!" (The curiosity
is, why do you hate mutual funds so much? The perceived benefit is getting information about mutual funds that will help the investor. Of course, it doesn't have to be mutual funds. That's just an example.)
2. For Realtors emailing perspective clients: "When hiring a Realtor, NEVER ask this..." (The curiosity is, what is there are questions I shouldn't ask?
The perceived benefit is the reader will find out the answer if they open the email.)
3. For a Miami vet emailing dog owners in surrounding zip codes: "Do Miami dogs really get sicker than other dogs?" (Again, the curiosity is wondering what the answer is. Incidentally, the benefit is also knowing the answer. The key word here is "really.")

See the formula
in action in almost every subject line above? Number ! is purely benefit-oriented, but the curiosity level is so high, EVERYONE wants to know how to make 5-figures in minutes. It did very well. Number 4 is pure curiosity, but the curiosity is SO strong, you're dying to know who the new "King of Marketing" is. The others fit the formula perfectly.
Did this formula work on you? You bet! (It already did.) My subject line, "My #1 secret for getting emails opened," got you to click.
It contained both elements:
1. The curiosity element was the use of the words "#1 secret."
2. The perceived benefit is knowing how to get your emails opened.
Now, there are other formulas and strategies for getting emails opened. I've
discussed some previously. But the Curiosity + Perceived Benefit = Open is, by far, one of the strongest.
Test it out.
