I remember sitting with him in the realtor's office in Apollo Beach, Florida. This must have been about 30 years ago.
He was interested in buying a waterfront vacant lot but wasn't interested in making a large initial financial commitment.
I sat there in amazement as he chopped down the requested down payment from $100,000 to $50,000 to $25,000 to $10,000... to ultimately...
Writing a check for $5,000 and leaving with a contract.
As part of the deal, he negotiated a 90 due diligence period, after which time, the five grand could be FULLY REFUNDED if he so desired.
To be honest, till this day, I still don't know how he did it. I wish I had paid closer attention and even taken notes.
And though my father passed away 19 years ago, the lessons I learned from him still live with me every day.
And knowing how important a skill negotiation is for every single business person, I wanted to have an expert present a masterclass on negotiation during Coptic-Con.
