The word "free" still gets most people pretty excited.
So does "I baked you cookies."
But for the moment, let's focus on free. :)

I would have to believe, no matter what your business, surely there's something that has a high perceived value that you can offer for free.

And I'm sure there are plenty of others that you can think of.
Most of these will cost little to no money. The reason you do it is to give your customer a taste of your work and abilities, and hopefully they'll take the next step of hiring you.
Yes, after all these years, the power of free is still strong.
