Ready for the tip on how to generate more referrals?
OK -- so here it is:
DON'T CALL THEM REFERRALS.
Yes, that's correct. You want referrals but you should call them "referrals" when you ask for them.
Why?
Because the word referral can make some people a little apprehensive because it implies extra work and responsibility that the referring party may not be enthusiastic about.
It's true.
Instead, what should you do?
Rather than call them referrals "referrals," call them introductions.
It's much more palatable to ask someone to make an introduction for you.
People generally don't hesitate doing that; in fact, some people actually like to play matchmaker, setting you up with people who might help you drum up some business.
But asking for a referral, in almost all cases, will give a less enthusiastic response than asking for introduction.
What can I tell you? Psychology is an interesting thing.
Knowing this little tidbit can benefit you greatly in the referral (I mean "introduction") world.
