I know better than to fall for that...

I remember a few years ago, my son Dimitri was trying to convince me to let him go to a party.
I'll spare you all the details... but the emphatic statement he made to persuade me was:
"But Dad, everybody Is going!"
He, unknowingly, was using social proof (EVERYBODY is going) as a method to sway me.
Smart kid.
Of course, having studied marketing psychology, I knew what this play was all about. If I didn't agree to his request, he would be shunned. An outcast! Plus, if EVERYBODY is doing something, it must be ok, right? Ha!
In marketing, we use social proof elements all the time. They're called testimonials, success stories, positive reviews, public Q & A's and the like: If all these people are saying such great things about you, you must be great.
Social proof marketing is only one of the powerful things you can do to boost confidence in you.
What about other persuasion tactics?
In his book, "Persuasion," Dr. Robert Cialdini (I've often talked about him), lists the following as persuasion principles:
1. Scarcity
2. Authority
3. Social Proof
4. Consistency/Commitment
5. Liking
6. Reciprocity
They all work and all deserve time for discussion.
