We as Copts tend to shy away from self-promotion.
I won't speculate as to the reason; nonetheless, it's critical to be able to tell people who you are, what you offer, and why they should buy from you/hire you.
Without a clear messaging in that regard, everyone will be left asking the question:
What Do You Offer that Makes You Different?
Part of your uniqueness is your story. Your motivation. The driving force behind the "why" in your business/firm/practice.
You might think that's insignificant but it's not. It matters and it attracts customers to you like bees to honey.
People doing business with you want to know why you're doing what you're doing. They're actually looking for you to give them a reason.
And what do most business owners do? They shy away from talking about themselves, their story, their background and their motivation in starting and running their business.
What a lost opportunity.
I Remember Last Year at Coptic-Con...
I started the event by talking about my late father, how pivotal he was in my business background and how starting the Coptic Chamber was, in a way, an homage to him.
My father, shortly after we arrived in New Jersey in 1969, became his own little chamber of commerce, connecting Copts with one another, helping them find partners and investors and giving them business advice.
This was my motivation for starting the Chamber. So when I told this story at Coptic-Con, I naturally got emotional about it, as were many of the attendees. We were bonding over the story of why the Chamber was started. The connection was strong.
I know in the past I've brought up this point about the importance of you telling your story, but I hope you really take it to heart.
Tell it on your website. On social media. On video. Anywhere you have an audience. They'll want to hear it.
And don't be afraid to repeat it over and over. Chances are you'll always have someone new in your audience who hasn't heard it before.
