Over the years, I've received a LOT of advice.
Certainly more than I can recall.
Some of which I requested, some came to me completely unsolicited (that's always fun, isn't it?).
But one piece of business advice sticks in my mind like a sore thumb.
I remember where I was and who gave it.
It was during a marketing seminar I attended years ago in Las Vegas.
The speaker said the following:
"If You're Not Saying Great Things About Your Business, Who Will? And If Someone Does Say Something Great,
Shouldn't You Share It with the World?"
It's not really profound; but it sort of is.
As Copts, we tend to shy away from self-praise. We're taught to be humble, even unworthy, from a very young age. While I certainly understand the principle behind that, I want you to look at it from a different angle:
What if someone doesn't know about you and what you do -- and they end up going to your competitor who's not as skilled or ethical or caring or diligent?
What if they receive inferior service because of it?
Who lost out? Yes, obviously you did... but also... that person lost out on how you could have helped them and what you could have provided them.
Makes sense?
What if you're able to maintain humility while also sharing the accomplishments of your business and all the props your customers have given you?
That would be ok, right?
And so, it's imperative that you share (with pretty much anyone who'll listen) everything positive related to your business.
Share it on social media, in person, using video, in a newsletter, or any other way you can get it out there.
Tout your testimonials, customer praise, accolades, awards, and whatever else -- everything.
Reach as many people as possible with your positive news.
Because... if you don't do it... who will?
