Ever Hear of "Mirroring"?
There's a technique out there in sales, counseling and persuasion (face-to-face) that we use and it's called mirroring.
It's a subliminal technique where you are supposed to mirror the actions, mannerisms and even voice inflection of the person you're sitting in front of.
If they start chuckling and move in towards you, are are supposed to subtly do the same.
If they pull their head back in surprise, you continue speaking and do the same.
The idea behind mirroring is that we all like to deal with people who resemble us and act like us.
It's a kind of "Simon Says!" but like I said previously, you don't want it to seem robotic. It's subtle.
To be honest, I've used this technique for probably 20 or 30 years and find myself doing it without even thinking.
I do it because it works.
You know you're doing mirroring correctly when people feel a bond or kinship with you after meeting you for only a short while. They see themselves in you (subconsciously) and it makes them happy. They might even tell their friends about you: "I don't know what it is about him (or her) but we just hit it off!"
