Dear ,
Confession time: When I was in my teens, 20s and 30s, I procrastinated a lot.
As I got into my 40s and 50s, I learned to remove distractions and focus on ONE TASK AT A TIME. This was a huge help.
I still get sucked into the allure of multitasking every now and then (it's like a vacuum that pulls you in), but I've become more disciplined and am able to work on one task at a time. Usually :)
But What Really Turned It Around For Me
Was Self-Realization
I've always noticed that when I had a task to do, and procrastinated, it was because I simply didn't want to start (for a myriad of reasons). Though this reality might not sound earth-shattering to you, it actually changed my life.
I simply remind myself that this task MUST and WILL be completed anyway... so why am I stalling?
I remind myself of the hundreds or thousands of tasks in which I have procrastinated, (and lost so much valuable time) and yet I have the opportunity to do better this time.
I remind myself that I have never NOT completed a task/work-related job, so it's ok to start now. Nothing bad will happen.
I also reward myself when I beat procrastination and start a project on time (sometimes even early).
Ultimately, I found dealing with procrastination is such a mental game.
But, yes, procrastination CAN be beat. You are much stronger than you realize.
Until next time...
In the meantime, K.I.C. (Keep It Coptic!)
