Dear ,
No matter what you do...
No matter where you are...
No matter why you do it...
Your VERY FIRST JOB in any marketing situation... when delivering any marketing message... is to...
Grab Your Audience's Attention!
Without having someone's attention, nothing you will say after that will matter very much.
For some reason, many business people forget about this all too important rule of marketing and advertising.
This applies whether you're running an ad, mailing a postcard or speaking to a group of people.
The problem is, many business owners are somewhat confused as to what constitutes a good attention-grabber.
Let me make something abundantly clear:
Unless You're Famous or Have a Famous Brand,
YOUR LOGO SHOULD NEVER BE YOUR HEADLINE
Why? Because, generally, no one really cares about the logo -- what people are looking for are things that will attract them: a benefit, a curiosity statement, an exciting offer, even an unusual statistic.
Business owners are programmed to think that their name or logo is so vitally important that it should be the first thing a prospect sees. Maybe on your storefront, but not in your marketing material.
For example, the flyer above is a perfect illustration of what NOT to do. It might have nice colors and appear nicely laid out, but it won't be very effective because the headline (the logo) won't draw people in. And if the headline doesn't grab them, you've cut your chances of succeeding drastically.
I'll talk a lot more about how to attract attention and get people to read your marketing materials tomorrow.
