Dear ,
I'm shooting some videos for upcoming promotions and thought I'd share my top 6 video tips, guaranteed to make your videos better, more interesting and more watchable.
Drum roll please...
1.Start with a "Hook" or Attention-Getter -- The first thing you MUST do is immediately, from the very first second, grab your audience by the throat (gently) and pull them in. If you don't do this from the very start, they might bail and never return. There are lots of ways of hooking
a viewer, from using a prop (shout out to Founding 50 and Gold Member Steve Shalaby, Realtor and Mortgage Broker in South Florida with the M&M's pack -- https://www.facebook.com/shalabydreamhomes/videos/857610511304528/), to using a cool graphic, statistic, animation, quote, or other things.
2. Invest in an inexpensive "Lav" Mic -- If you want your video to sound high-production, you absolutely
must use an external mic, like a clip-on microphone (also called a lavaliere or "lav"). If you use your in-camera microphone (no matter how expensive your camera or cell phone), it will sound like you're trapped in the Lincoln Tunnel. You can also use a boom mic, but that's usually more costly and requires a more elaborate set up. The wired clip-on mic I recommend is called Purple Panda. It's really a great little mic. You can get it for around $30. You can go to
www.purplepandastore.com (sign up for the email newsletter to get 10% off) or get it from Amazon at: https://www.amazon.com/Purple-Panda-Lavalier-Lapel-Microphone/dp/B01MSKI46R.
3. Learn the Rule of Thirds -- In photography or videography, there's a basic principle that says to divide your screen into 9 equal parts and place your subject in one of the intersecting lines. This will give you a more dynamic shot. If you're doing an interview or speaking directly to the camera,
your head should be in the top third of the shot, slightly toward the left or right. Here's a quick 1-minute tutorial on the Rule of Thirds and the placement of the subject's eyes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XqtKROu8r4
4. Your Background Matters! -- Try to shoot in front of something your audience will find appealing and will enhance your subject-matter. Realize that the viewer will not only be focusing on you and what you say, but also what's around you. Sometimes people will obsess
over minute details, like a tiny little picture frame in the corner or a note on a desk behind you.
6. Show and Tell Your CTA (Call to Action) -- So what do you do at the end of the video? Hopefully, you will direct your viewer to do something -- to take some kind of action. It can be something like sign up for your newsletter, call you for a free consultation, order from your website, text
you for an appointment, or something similar. The key is, you must clearly and specifically give the directive to your audience so they don't wander away. Away, if you have the capability to do this, you want to show your Call to Action on the screen so they both hear it from you and see it on the screen.
I hope this helped. If you haven't begun using videos to promote your business, you should start ASAP. Studies have shown that people are up to 80% more likely to watch a video than read a solicitation.
Until next time...
