Dear ,
Having been in business for over 30 years and a lawyer for 24 of those years, I've learned a thing or two about people.
At times, I've been pleasantly surprised...
At other times, I've been sorely disappointed.
But, with experience, I've learned to be keenly aware of this one thing:
The World Is Full of
Wolves In Sheep's Clothing
Especially when you're in business and there are money issues involved... beware of those who are suddenly on your side... befriending you... making countless generous gestures... pop up out of nowhere to be your ally.
The question you must ask is:
What's Their Motivation?
Why now and what is their end game?
Now, I'm not saying you shouldn't be willing to welcome in new people into your inner circle. You should. And I'm not saying everyone who surprises you with goodness has an ulterior motive because that's not necessarily the case.
What I AM saying is you have to enter every deal, every business transaction, every negotiation, every business relationship with your eyes wide open.
Many a business owner has gotten burned because they let their guard now. Don't let that happen to you.
What you see on the exterior isn't always reflective of the interior. And vice versa.
Now, I don't mean to turn this into a pessimistic rant, because it's not. I'm actually quite an optimistic person. I just wanted to share these words of advice with you that happen to be a culmination of 30 years in business:
Always proceed with caution and question motivations (especially when things seem out of the ordinary).
