Dear ,
I'm an observer of people. Of behavior.
I study how and why people do things.
As a marketer, it's my job.
I also notice when people DON'T do things.
Want to know what is a huge, glaring failure I've noticed that holds back a huge chunk of the population from growth, advancement, success and money? I call it:
The Failure of Follow-Up
So many opportunities are lost because of lack of follow-up. And with lost opportunities comes lost potential, lost income.
A good friend of mine -- I've known her for over 30 years -- asked me to mentor a student of hers. "She's so hungry," she told me. "She'll be a sponge," she reassured me.
Well, after I connected with my mentee and gave her my feedback on her website, I never heard back. Radio silence. I had to reach out to HER to see if she received my email. She did.
Failure of Follow Up.
Another person, who emailed me because he wanted to work for free (he was willing to do video and marketing work just to learn) dropped off the face of the earth. After I gave him a video assignment as a trial run, I never heard back. Poof. He vanished.
Failure of Follow Up.
And these stories are certainly not unique to me. I'm sure you have your own Failure of Follow Up stories. People who you've entrusted with responsibilities who failed to follow up.
The Key Is...
Let's make sure that we're not guilty of committing the same offense.
If you say you're going to do something, do it.
If you promise someone something, see it through.
And by all means, if you receive a request for more information about your business, make sure you follow through and provide it (yes, it's shocking how many people advertise their services and then drop the ball when it comes to follow up).
My point is, simply following up on your tasks, even if you do nothing else, will increase your success rate tremendously.
It's such a simple thing to do, yet it trips up so many.
