First of all, I'd like to thank Hanan Swaress, Real Estate Broker/Owner at Bavly Real Estate Corp. (Margate, FL) for emailing me about yesterday's newsletter.
I quoted Brevit Group's stat that the best time to make a sales call is between 4pm - 5pm. Hanan said she found that calling between 6pm - 8pm was better because she finds more people at home and available to talk.
What Hanan says is true; however, I should have clarified that what I meant was it's better to call between 4pm - 5pm in a business-to-business environment. And it's especially good for cold calling.
Thank you, Hanan!

As for today's message...
You know what one of the greatest persuasion techniques is? It's simply...
Be Polite.
Be Nice.
Be Friendly.
It amazes me when I see someone in a restaurant or standing in line at the grocery store yelling, screaming, trying to get their way... and then... they're shocked and stunned when they don't.
Or let's say you're trying to get a credit on your phone bill and the customer service rep isn't being cooperative. Then you go ballistic and drop every curse-bomb you know.
Do you really think insulting and degrading someone will help you get what you want?
Of course not.
On the other hand, I've seen instances -- and had many personal experiences -- where simply being polite and friendly makes someone want to go the extra mile for you.
Case in point: I went to Office Depot recently to get ink for our home printer. I took one of the Office Depot coupons with me hoping I could save a whopping $1.50! (Just kidding. It would have been about a $12 savings.)
When I approached the cashier I said, "Hi Ken, wow, you guys are really busy today, you're doing a great job!"
That's all I said.
Then I handed him the toner and coupon... he started ringing me up... then looked up at me and said, 'Normally we don't accept these (coupons) on tech items or toner... but let me see what I can do."
He called his manager over, asked for an override... and...
Voila!
$12 came off my bill. Just like that.
It's not so much that $12 is such a big deal, it's that doing something that cost me nothing helped me get something of value.
What was, "Sorry, I can't do that" became, "Sure, I can do that!"
All because I was polite, nice and friendly.
Such an easy thing to do, yet it eludes so many.
Until next time...
And remember, K.I.C. ("Keep It Coptic")
P.S. Happy Lazarus Saturday and Hosanna Sunday.
