Dear ,
Last night, my wife and I attended the engagement party of someone who is near and dear to our hearts.
We had a great time.
Our table was lively and we were surrounded by wonderful people, including our newest Gold member, Dr. Paul Michael (a Florida interventional cardiologist who is making remarkable advancements in saving limbs from amputation) and his wonderful wife, Dr. Christina Michael, also a cardiologist.
What really struck me was the line up of speakers -- mostly clergy conveying their love and best wishes for the newly engaged couple.
However, one speaker, in particular, really stood out.
You know why?
He Told a Story!
Even though this speaker (a priest) spent significantly more time at the podium than the others (about 20 minutes), his time up there felt like the shortest... because he had us captivated by his great story.
Not only was the story hilarious... but the suspense and comedic element kept building until he reached the crescendo.
He was a great teller. But, more importantly, it once again emphasized what I've always preached:
If you want to capture someone's attention... if you want them hanging on your every word... if you want them connecting with you on a deep level...
Even better if the story has some funny parts and suspense to it.
Truly, there's no better way to connect with your audience, whether live, in writing, in a video or otherwise.
If you have any good stories related to telling stories, let me know.
Until next time...
