Dear ,
EVERY SINGLE PERSON WHO USES EMAIL must pay close attention:
When you send an email, you'd like people to click open and read what you wrote, right?
Right.
And you want them to do it quickly, right?
Right.
Well, the key is to make your SUBJECT LINE as exciting and tantalizing and (somewhat) provocative -- WITHOUT making it click bait.
I can hear you saying to yourself: "Duh! I already knew that... tell me something I don't know!"
Ok, sure... since you asked so nicely, I think I will!
The secret to getting your emails opened -- AND QUICKLY -- is to...
Place Your "Say What?!" Words
No More Than Four Words Into Your Subject Line
So this is real important. Stay with me here.
The "Say What?!" word(s) are the unique, unusual or shocking words in the subject line that make your reader do a double-take and want to click right away to find out what it's all about.
In the example above, those words are "Bloody-Fast." This piqued your curiosity and made you open this email, right?
The second part of the secret is that the "Say What?!" words need to appear very early in the subject line. The reason is, if you wait until the sixth or seventh or tenth word, it's very likely your reader won't see it. (Think smart phones nowadays that show you only the first few words of the subject line). You must make an impact -- grab their attention -- QUICKLY, within the first few words.
I could have written the subject line as follows:
How to get your emails opened BLOODY-FAST!
The problem is, the "Say What?!" words appear at the end of the line and that would have lessened my chances of getting the email opened.
I shudder at the thought! :)
I promise you, if you become really good at writing top-notch "Say What?!" subject lines, you will notice much more engagement when you send emails.
If you work in any type of sales environment where you send proposals or sales quotes, etc., the "Say What?!" method couldn't be more essential (don't go overboard with the provocative stuff, but place your key words EARLY in the subject line). But, really, this applies to EVERYONE who uses email.
I hope you start using this little secret when you're emailing. Test it out.
Until next time...
