I love this guy.
It's Joe Girard. He's a legend in sales. He's a famous guy. In fact, he holds the Guinness Book World Record for selling the most cars in one year: 1,425 in the year 1973. If you do the math, that's, on average, over 3.9 cars sold everyday, assuming he worked seven day a week!
Incredible.
I want to share two quotes of his.
1."What made Joe Girard was service, service, service -- and I created the greatest advertising in the world, which was word of mouth," Joe said.
2. "I never sold a car in my life, I sold a Girard."
To summarize both quotes together: Joe never just sold a "car." He sold his name, his reputation and his commitment to the customer, both before AND after the sale. He was the kind of guy who'd tell his customers, if you need anything -- ANYTHING AT ALL -- you just come to me and we'll get it taken care of.
And you know what? His customers believed him -- and he did exactly what he said he would do.
See, sales isn't always formulas, persuasion and canned responses. At its core, it's about offering people an excellent product at a fair price and going the extra mile to serve them.
If you can do that, you have a great shot at doing well at sales.
