Dear ,
It's rare when I come across someone who genuinely loves to sell.
Instead, I'll usually hear, "I don't like being pushy."
Or... "I hate rejection."
Or... "It cheapens my image to act like a salesperson."
Well, I have news for you:
No Matter What Business Or Profession You're In...
We Are ALL Salespeople!
Many people don't realize that whether they're selling furniture, houses, insurance, T-shirts, legal services, a root canal or even heart surgery, some degree of sales ability is required. And the #1 most important driver of salesmanship? Your ability to PERSUADE.
Persuasion is an ability that's crucially important in business and one that can be easily learned. In a business setting, it combines psychology, sociology, negotiation, observation and product knowledge. Without it, your sales will flat line.
I plan on giving you short tips on persuasion in the upcoming weeks and months. You'll be able to use them in your business and in your everyday life.
But before I go, here's one persuasion tip you can put to use right away:
It's much easier for someone to buy from you once they've "handled the merchandise" first. For example, electronics stores train their salespeople to encourage the customers to walk up to the TV screen, hold the remote, change the channels, push the buttons and get involved. Once they do that, they are more likely to buy because they're more engaged.
If you're not selling a physical product, you can still get your customer involved by having them review your product information, look over your website, fill out a questionnaire or take a survey.
The important thing is to get your customer or client involved in the process BEFORE you ask for the sale. You'll have a much easier time closing the deal.
Until next time...
P.S. Ever wonder why mailers like Publishers Clearing House send you a big fat envelope with stickers and ask you to attach the sticker to a card that's enclosed? It's not for their amusement... it's to get you involved in the process (just like I explained above). People who peel the sticker and affix it to the card are more likely to order from PCH. It's called...
Silent persuasion.
