Dear ,
If you're in business, in any capacity, you should be on LinkedIn.
What is LinkedIn? It's the social media network designed for business people to connect and find employment
opportunities.
Now I'm not going to tell you about the ins and outs of LinkedIn here. What I will do is focus on probably the first or second most important part of LinkedIn:
Your
Headline!
(The other extremely important part of your profile is your photo)
Back to the headline. What I mean by your headline is the little blurb right below your name. If it doesn't grab someone's attention in the first millisecond, then it failed as a headline.
Are you with
me? Good.
I'm constantly amazed (although I shouldn't be) by the absolute nonsense some people write. Seriously, I wonder what people think sometimes.
The goal of the headline is threefold:
1. Immediately capture attention
2. Communicate a message or keyword(s) that will interest your audience
3. Make the viewer want to know more
If your headline fails to do any of the three, there's a good chance people will move right past you.
Here are some headlines you shouldn't use because they mean absolutely nothing or are simply awful (I'm not kidding, these are real, ACTUAL headlines):
-"Global Travel Transformation Strategist" (Umm... what's being transformed here?)
-"Global Consciousness Business Technology" (Maybe he was unconscious when he came up with that)
-"Creative Disrupter" (It may be a good name for a song, but not a headline)
-"Jack of all Trades" (Master of...
nothing?)
-"Currently Seeking Employment" (And what are you seeking employment in exactly?)
-"Multi-Skilled Business Professional" (And who on LinkedIn isn't?)
-Addicted to
sustainable innovation (Hmm... isn't there a treatment center for that?)
Anyway, my point is, make your headline count! Maybe tomorrow I'll give you tips on how to write a good LinkedIn headline.
Once I tell you some tricks, it'll be a breeze.
