Dear ,
Relax. I'm not offering you a gun (that may actually disappoint some of you, you know who you are! :)
But I am offering you a way to get more sales.
So often we market ourselves... we sell to people... we try to attract a certain audience... and really know nothing about them.
Want to sell like crazy? Know your audience (your target market) inside and out, backwards and forwards.
What do they like?
Where do you they hang out?
What hobbies/outside interests do they have?
What keeps them up at night worrying?
What type of work do they do?
What publications do they read?
Who do they admire?
What is their political
leaning (I'm not suggesting you discuss politics, but the answer can be very helpful)
And so forth and so on...
The more you know about them, the easier it will be to reach them, customize your messaging to attract them, and make them offers that appeal
to them.
The Problem Is...
We get into business and start selling to an audience we know very little about.
Imagine:
If someone opens up a steakhouse in the middle of a neighborhood that has a high concentration of vegans?
Or...
If a shooting
range mails a promotion to local residents without realizing the high concentration of anti-gun activists nearby? (That's why the headline "Want to Buy a Gun?" will flop.)
Or...
If a real estate agent tries to sell a home to a mechanical engineer by focusing on emotion (you'll hear the kids
laughing and playing and creating memories in the pool) while abandoning the logical sell (it's a great investment; structurally, it's solidly built by the best builder in the area; etc.)
Again, once you know your audience, whether on a micro or macro level, your sales job becomes a million times easier.
I'll tell you how to find out about your target market in an upcoming email. It's really important.
