Dear ,
Someone once said that the ability to focus on something without losing enthusiasm or momentum is a superpower.
In a lot of ways, I agree.
Not enough is said about the importance of focus in business. In anything really.
Why Do We Get Distracted?
The problem is, people get distracted rather quickly because we have a never-ending stream of stimuli all around us. Nowadays, attention spans are shorter than ever, not only for the consumer but for the business owner as well.
I remember consulting with a client one afternoon and she started the call "focused" on one very specific business idea... and within a few minutes, she started bouncing from idea... to idea... to idea...
She had a lack of focus and her goals weren't clearly defined. That's a big reason why we can't maintain our focus -- our target isn't clear.
Have you ever walked into the grocery store with four items in your head -- milk, bread, tissue paper and oranges -- and walked out with three bags and 14 items (believe me, I'm guilty as well!)? Sometimes it's because you see some items that you remembered you needed and picked them up... other times it's because you're wandering about and some things catch your eye and you figure, why
not?
The same thing happens in business. Our ability to focus directly impacts our level of success.
Read that again.
The more we're able to set our sights on a specific, defined objective (and carry it through), the more likely we are to succeed. It's like 2+2=4.
(That's not to say that we shouldn't be able to pivot when we're presented with the perfect opportunity -- that's a separate issue.)
I hope you take a moment this weekend and ask yourself how laser-focused you are in your business and achieving your goals.
It can make all the difference in your level of success.
Until next time...
