Dear ,
Few things disappoint me more than this.
It didn't really "disappoint' more, actually it made me mad because it could have been avoided.
You see, yesterday at 9am, I called someone's office because I wanted to speak with them about a referral. This referral would have resulted in about $10,000-$20,000 in fees in about a month.
He wasn't there and I left a message with his assistant. I identified who I was and said I wanted to discuss sending him a referral. The assistant said he was in a meeting and she would give him the message and we hung up.
For the rest of the day yesterday... no call back.
All day today... no call back.
Will there be a call back tomorrow? I don't know and I'm not holding my breath. As far as I'm concerned, he already blew it.
Why such a harsh reaction? Not because I'm personally insulted he didn't call me back... but because... if he's ignoring the call of someone who's trying to help him make money, how do you think he'll handle his clients' calls?
Bad move! He just lost a referral and any potential business I would have sent his way.
Now, You Might Say Maybe He Had an Excuse...
Ok, so maybe he was dealing with some extraordinary circumstances and couldn't call me back. That's possible I suppose.
What he should have done is have his assistant call me back THAT DAY, explain the emergency, and try to set an appointment for us to talk.
That's the right thing to do. The smart thing to do... if someone truly cares about building a thriving business.
So why am I sharing this with you? Because I never want you to be "THAT" guy (or gal). It will hurt you reputation, your business and your bottom line. This applies pretty much to any business, any practice.
Remember, you only get one chance to make a first impression.
