I'm sure I caught your attention -- and REALLY caught the attention of some of our dentist members.
OK, well, not brushing your teeth is bad advice. It's terrible hygiene and may cause gingivitis and dental and periodontal problems. Not to mention can cause heart problems.
What I meant to say is...
DON'T BRUSH YOUR TEETH TOO HARSHLY!
Almost every dentist I know recommends you use a SOFT BRISTLE toothbrush to brush your teeth because if you're too rough on them, it can negatively impact the enamel and gums.
So, what does this have to do with marketing? Everything.
You see, the objective of marketing, whether in writing, in speech or face to face, is to convince, persuade and ultimately lead the prospect directly to the sale.
And do you know what one of the biggest hurdles business owners encounter in marketing?
POOR COMMUNICATION.
The problem is, either the business owner does not adequately educate the customer/client/patient about the advantages of what you're offering... or... they assume the prospect already knows it, which often times, they do not.
Back to the dentist example...
If our hypothetical dentist above simply recommended to his patients that they should use soft bristle toothbrushes without elaborating, it doesn't convey the full impact of the message. He will appear inadequate or unskilled.
HOWEVER...
If the dentist uses the language as to WHY... and uses the above language I used... and properly EDUCATES the patient, it will be better received and the dentist will be much more impressive.
The same principle applies to any business/profession and at all skill levels.
It's about communication and education. Sometimes that's all it requires.
Marketing can be so simple sometimes.
Have a great weekend!
